The AAAS Martin and Rose Wachtel Cancer Research Award is an annual award, funded by an endowment established through a generous bequest from Martin L. Wachtel, which honors early-career investigators who have performed outstanding work in the field of cancer research.

This year's winner is Humsa Venkatesh, an Assistant Professor at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Venkatesh will deliver her lecture titled "Targeting electrochemical communication between neurons and cancer" at the National Institutes of Health, Lipsett Amphitheater and via livestream on July 28, 2023 from 12:00pm - 1:15pm EDT with a luncheon reception to follow in the FAES Terrace for in-person attendees. The award-winner's Essay will be published in Science Translational Medicine the week of the award ceremony.
